Moneyball Meets Hospitality: Unlocking the Power of Data
with Steven Moore, CEO of Actabl, on the Hospitality Daily Podcast
Steven Moore is the CEO of Actabl, a hospitality technology firm, and one of the biggest things that stood out to me from speaking with him was the chance to come up with fresh new solutions by approaching problems with an open mind and using analytics to uncover areas for opportunity.
A few more things that stood out from our conversation:
Covid changed the way we view technology. "All of a sudden, it’s not an option anymore. Technology is mission critical.”
Focus on housekeeping and engineering. "There’s an opportunity to not only improve coordination but improve the culture of a hotel by helping those two departments work together."
Talent opportunity. “How can we use technology to attract and retain a new generation of hoteliers?”
Playing “moneyball.” "Is there something we can discover in our data sets that hotels are not focusing on, but should be?”
Risk management. “Hotel owners have market risk, financial risk, and operational risk. The markets may be outside our control, but we can manage operational risk better than ever.”
Maintaining magic. "We think a lot about how can we maintain some of the magic for people that are in hotels.”
Technology is changing hospitality, and by using data to identify new insights and improve operations, we have the opportunity to improve profitability while maintaining the magic of hospitality.
